Serpents

I’ve seen this song today on just about every blog I read.  But I’m not surprised.  We all knew it was only a matter of time before we’d here something from Sharon Van Etten’s upcoming Feb. 7th release of Tramp (via Jagjaguwar).  The record was recorded with the National’s Aaron Dessner in his studio and if features contributions from Bryce Dessner, Beirut’s Zach Condon, Julianna Barwick, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, the Walkmen’s Matt Barrick and Doveman’s Thomas Bartlett.

Wow, its an all-star team.  Can’t wait for this.

Oliver Tank "Dreams"

A couple months ago I posted about the Australian ambient artist Oliver Tank, and a track called “Last night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion” off the EP Dreams.  Since then, I’ve spent some time with this great debut EP.  Highly recommended for Eno, KC Accidental fans and it could possibly be this years’ sunday afternoon soundtrack.  Especially as the temperature starts to drop, I see myself spinning these songs on days where its just better to stay inside.

Stream and buy the EP here, or below.

Mad Ones

While at a work event this week, I met Phil Wilson from Mad Ones.  Our conversation had started on our day jobs but drifted towards “hey, i’ve got a band” and “cool, i’ve got a blog”.  And thats the story of how the track “Behaviour” got up here.  Cool track.

Toronto folks, they’re playing tomorrow night at the Silver Dollar with Catl, Mercy Now and Pkew Pkew Pkew (gunshots).

Listen: "Gathering Stories" by Jónsi

I’ve been watching updates from the upcoming Cameron Crowe film “We Bought A Zoo”, his adaptation of the memoir by Benjamin Mee about a family who deals with the loss of a loved one by moving into a house that also doubles as a zoo.  Sigur Ros’s Jónsi got the gig as the composer for the film after the production fell in love with his voice from playing the album Sigur Ros album Heima on set, plus with his successes on soundtracks like “How To Train A Dragon”,  why wouldn’t you want him creating the voice of this film.

The soundtrack comes out December 13th, with movie hitting theatres 10 days later on December 23rd.  Take a listen to “Gathering Stories”.
